The design focus was on producing a building that addresses the marine site location, orientation and engaged with the City of Galway on as many functional and aspirational levels as possible.
The form comprising staggered boxes (with a connecting external tiered seating area) was inspired by the coastal location - waves crashing onto the shore.
This form was further developed with the introduction of the cylindrical roof structure to provide some weather protection, the roof, stage and kiosk structures were considered as objects 'on the shore', with a strong organic reference in their structure and appearance.
