The commission involved preliminary investigations of the stonework which had cracked in many locations, and investigation (both internal and external) of the four-storey structural steel frame, including the filler joist floor system which had been employed.
An overall Condition Report and Planned Maintenance Programme was prepared and presented to the Client. The total cost of the Restoration and Refurbishment was approx £13m, and was based on a sequential series of Contracts proposed over a 10 year period, during all of which the building remained in occupation throughout the majority of its floorspace.
