Lisnagarvey Hockey Club as is generally known is one of the most successful sporting clubs in Ireland.
The design of the Clubhouse is such that all the social facilities are on the upper floor with all the "working / changing" facilities on the lower floors. The upper floor incorporates a conference and meeting room along with a bar/lounge. The bar spans the whole width of the building and with the full height glazing stretching the full length of both sides of the building the spectators have uninterrupted views of both playing pitches simultaneously. All the changing facilities are at the lower level and have direct access to the pitches. The layout of the changing facilities at ground level is designed to ìannounceî the players onto the pitches which accesses through a players tunnel directly onto both pitches on the centre line just below the viewing area.
The orientation of the Clubhouse and the pitches was dictated by the low winter sun path and sits in the middle of the site with a hockey pitch on both sides.
Externally the most striking element of design of the club-house is the butterfly roof design which is finished in aluminium profiled roof system. The elevations incorporate vertical zinc cladding, cedar boarding and the pre-coloured render along with the curtain wall glazing to complete the exterior of the building and provide a very sharp and crisp finish.
