CITY OF DERRY AIRPORT – TERMINAL EXTENSION
In response to a continued increase in flights and passenger numbers, Derry City Council appointed WDR & RT Taggart to provide Architectural, Project Management & Civil Engineering services for an extension to the existing terminal facilities to provide much needed International Arrivals, Retail Units and a Business Lounge.
The concept for the new extension was to create a functional building which followed the form and materiality of Existing RIBA Award Winning Terminal designed by WDR & RT Taggart in 1996.
The terminal extension opened on 2nd June 2010 in time for the summer increase in travel numbers associated with holiday flights. The whole development was completed on site in 15 weeks and was implemented without any impact on the smooth running of Airport operations.
