This project for Rivers Agency and in conjunction with JBA Consulting identified areas of Significant Flood Risk and produced Flood Risk Mapping for Northern Ireland in accordance with Articles 5 & 6 of the EU Floods Directive.
The project first undertook an appraisal of historical, present and future potential adverse consequences of flooding to human health, economic activity, the environment and cultural heritage in order to meet Article 4 of the EU Floods Directive. This was based on generating a database of flood risk metrics for Northern Ireland using JBAs bespoke ArcGIS software, FriL-Mx. The flood risk metrics were based on readily derivable information from a wide range of partners, and included measures such as annual average number of people at risk, damages, area of sensitive environmental site flooded, etc. These were generated over a 1km grid of NI, and summarised over Plan Areas based on River Basins.
