We were appointed by Antrim Borough Council to undertake the design for the restoration and rejuvenation of approximately 2.5km of riverside walkway, along with the design of 0.3km of new pathway.
Three existing pedestrian footbridges were replaced with steel truss pedestrian/cycle footbridges (21m to 27m span), with the existing foundations re-used where possible, in order to reduce the extent of disturbance to the surrounding environment.
The rejuvenated footpaths comprise natural materials of gravel surfacing and timber edging, with stone filled gabion baskets providing any necessary river bank retention. Path widths and slope gradients were designed to provide ease of use by the public.
The completed scheme now provides a safe and pleasurable environment for pedestrians, cyclists and anglers as they roam this section of the Sixmilewater River and its associated mill races.
