A5 OMAGH THROUGHPASS STAGE 3 - RETAINING WALLS

The completion of this scheme for Omagh town centre now provides a throughpass for motorists travelling between Londonderry and Dublin, reducing congestion in the town centre. The third and final stage of the throughpass follows the route of a disused railway and required 2,600m of new road construction, 700m of link road construction, two new road bridges and 920m of reinforced concrete cantilever retaining wall.

We undertook the detailed design of the profiled finished reinforced concrete cantilever retaining walls, which under the project was Contractor designed. The height of retention varies from 0.8m to 9.6m, with the retention varying between private gardens and public roadway with associated vehicular parapet impact loading.

Additional services included obtaining Approval in Principal and Geotechnical certification, the detailed design of a sheet piled riverside retaining wall, temporary works design, and the design of a profiled concrete facing to a 6m high diaphragm wall.
