The Ardeevin Recycling Centre serves the town of Ballymena and the surrounding environs, whilst the Waste Transfer Station at Ballymacvea serves the entire Ballymena Borough. WDR & RT Taggart were appointment Lead Consultant by Ballymena Borough Council for both facilities and provided civil engineering, structural engineering, architectural, town planning and landscape design and contract stage services, including liaison with NIEA, WMU and obtaining planning permission.
Ardeevin comprises 1,500 sq.m of high and low level concrete hardstandings and associated storm and foul drainage to accommodate 2 No. green waste compactors and reception bays for household waste, timber, scrap metal, paper, builder's rubble, oil and various types of electrical and electronic equipment, and included CCTV, lighting, control barriers, signage and a borehole for the supply of water for 'washing down' purposes.
The Waste Transfer Station element of the commission comprised a 784 sq.m (24.5m x 32.0m x 8.5m high) fabric clad steel framed weatherproof enclosure for the temporary storage of waste.
