BALLYMENA WASTEWATER TREATMENT WORKS
WDR & RT Taggart were appointed as Civil, Structural and Architectural Designers on this £13.8M scheme to upgrade the treatment facilities at Spencestown WWTW and Tullaghgarley WWTW to provide treatment for a total population equivalent (Pe) of 150,000 people up to the year 2027. Works included:
- New pumping station to transfer all sewage flows to Tullaghgarley .
- Pumping main to new works inlet and diversion of existing sewers.
- Construction of new low level inlet sewer pumping station with screened overflow.
- Design of new portal framed steel plant building containing automatic screening and grit removal structures, storm by-pass channel, control rooms, standby generator and staff facilities.
- Refurbishment and alterations to existing storm tanks.
- Construction of new primary, secondary and final tanks
- New activated sludge pumping station with RAS and SAS flow separation
Construction of tertiary treatment granular media filters.
- New sludge dosing, reception, thickening and holding facilities.
- Design of control and accommodation buildings, access roads, hardstanding areas with spillage containment, process and civil pipework (gravity, pumping mains and pressurised), alterations to existing structures and plant, decommissioning works and landscape works.
