BELFAST TUNNEL PROJECT

CEF Specify Construction Excellence Awards 2010: Winner of 'Infrastructure -
Utilities' and "Overall Winner" categories.

The Belfast Tunnel project is one of the most significant infrastructure
projects ever to be carried out in Northern Ireland. It provides Belfast
with a modern sewerage system capable of meeting present and future
development needs. It significantly improves water quality in the Lagan and
Blackstaff Rivers, reduces the risk of flooding in the urban area, and
ensures compliance with European Union Environmental Standards.

Key features include the construction of approximately 10km of tunnel, a
large terminal pumping station, a major outfall structure into the Herdman
shipping channel and high level sewer connections. The scheme was delivered
via a £100m Design & Build Contract and WDR & RT Taggart
Civil/Structural/Architecture/Landscape Architecture was appointed as
multi-disciplinary design consultants to the Farrans-Morgan Est consortium.
