The project is part of the £100M Belfast Sewers Project and is a 5 year scheme involving the rehabilitation and upgrade of sections of the sewerage system in the greater Belfast area.
The majority of the sewerage network in Belfast dates back to Victorian times and consists of brickwork sewers carrying a combined flow. Some of the sewers have silted up, become damaged or in some cases collapsed, resulting in over 500 sections of sewers across Belfast being classified as Structural Performance Grade 4 or 5, and highlighted for investigation and repair.
This has involved the CCTV survey of pipelines, cleaning of pipes, and the rehabilitation of sewers using low/no dig technologies, such as CIPP lining, and the replacement of sewers using open cut methods.
The work is being carried out under a Design & Build Rehabilitation Framework, with Taggarts acting as Design Consultants to the Dawson WAM-McAllister Bros. consortium.
