ASTROPARK, ARMAGH
Award: Distinction in Landscape Design from the Irish Landscape Institute.
WDR & RT Taggart Landscape was awarded this commission by winning a design competition to develop an Astropark adjacent to the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium as a series of gardens depicting the Solar System.
The 5.3 hectare site is positioned at the top of a drumlin, one of three embracing Armagh. The aim of the scheme design was to depict the Universe and man¹s relationship with it. For example, the 'Solar System' is bounded by a straight 'Path of Discovery' with exhibits and features to explain and illustrate man¹s recent discoveries and explorations of the Solar System.
