BRITISH MEMORIAL GARDEN, PARC DE LA PAIX, CAEN, NORMANDY

Set within the International Garden of the Memorial Museum for Peace, this garden illustrates features of reflection. Visitors pass through a pergola based on a plan of a Celtic Cross. A garden Pavilion is a major focal point; with a fountain pool and hanging crystal to capture and reflect light. An Obelisk of mourne granite stands as a monument to the fallen and a Sundial acts as a monument to the Navy. The garden is transacted by a Colonnade walk formed using conifers. The plantings within the main garden in front of the Colonnade are colourful; fiery colours of shrubs, herbaceous plants and climbers. The Peace Garden has a simple cruciform layout of beds and plantings reflect peace and tranquillity with whites, pale pastel shades and lavenders with scent.
