YORKSCAPE MASTERPLAN

In 2007 WDR & RT Taggart and The Boyd Partnership produced a masterplan vision for Belfast City Centre Management for the area surrounding the proposed M2-Westlink-M3 junction.

The proposal identified the potential to develop a gateway scheme for North Belfast located on the lands between the existing and proposed roads and the existing railway line. The scheme envisages a mixed-use development centred around a new rail stop, including private and social housing, multi-storey park-and-ride car parking, commercial and retail space. Central to the vision is the aim to overcome the barrier effect of the roads proposal through the provision of a high quality public realm linking the Cathedral Quarter/York Street area and Sailorstown to North Belfast.

The imaging concept for 'Yorkscape' is of a series of buildings on buildings: exquisitely designed red brick folly-like structures (restaurants, housing, leisure uses) reflecting Belfastís industrial heritage, sited on top of larger masses or ëhillsí containing larger commercial space uses.
