There has been a discovery of a โsรกmi motif,โ which is a group of three specific mutations found in 1/3 of the sรกmi people The significance of this rests with the fact that this mutation has only been found in six other samples One was finnish and the remaining five were karelian. The sรกmi people (also saami) are a native people of northern europe inhabiting sรกpmi, which today encompasses northern parts of sweden, norway, finland, and the kola peninsula of russia.
Originally, the sรกmi were skilled hunters, with both men and women engaging in hunting seals and inland wildlife to sustain their communities Over time, their practices evolved into the herding of wild deer, which later became the reindeer husbandry for which the sรกmi are renowned today.
