There can be issues with an unlined metal bed and a bed mat in areas where road salt is common if you don't clean out periodically but since tacoma bed is composite that's not a concern. Wouldn't toyota only build one or the other, which ever happens to be the most reliable and dependable. Anyone removed the bed before and know what needs to be done
